Ukrainian defence forces shoot down one missile and 67 Shahed UAVs, one drone is still in airspace

The Russians attacked Ukraine with three missiles of various types and 73 Shaheds on the night of 29-30 September. The defence forces managed to destroy one missile and 67 drones, one Shahed flew towards Belarus, 3 more had disappeared from radar in the north of the country, and one UAV remains in the airspace. Details: One drone flew towards Belarus, while three more had disappeared from radar in the northern oblasts of Ukraine as a result of countering electronic warfare. "One UAV remains in the airspace of Ukraine, and combat operations are underway," the Air Force reported. The Russians reportedly launched the Shahed UAVs from the Russian cities of Kursk, Yeysk, and Orel, an Iskander-M ballistic missile from occupied Crimea, an Kh-59/69 air-to-surface missile from the airspace of temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Oblast, and an Kh-31P anti-aircraft missile from the airspace over the Black Sea.

The air attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Air Force and defence forces.

Background:

  • On the evening of 29 September, Russian forces launched a group of attack drones towards Ukraine.

    An air-raid warning was issued in Kyiv Oblast and several others. 

  • In the morning, Kyiv City Military Administration reported that all Shahed drones flying toward Kyiv were successfully destroyed.
  • Ukraine's defence forces downed eight Russian Shahed drones over Sumy Oblast.
  • A fire broke out at a critical infrastructure facility in the Bashtanka district in Mykolaiv Oblast as a result of a Russian drone attack.

    All the relevant services had been working at the scene.
