Ukrainian Yaroslava Mahuchikh wins Diamond League high jump for third year in a row

Ukrainian athletes Yaroslava Mahuchikh and Iryna Herashchenko have won the gold and bronze medals in the high jump at the final stage of the Diamond League in Brussels, Belgium. Despite the unpleasant rain, Mahuchikh easily managed to clear 1.88, 1.92, 1.95 and 1.97 m in succession. The only other competitor to conquer all of these bars was Australia's Nicola Olyslagers.

However, it was only on her second attempt that Olyslagers cleared 1.97 m, so she was trailing behind the Ukrainian and had to take a risk. The Australian missed the 1.99 m bar, immediately ordering a height of 2.01 m. All Mahuchikh had to do was respond in the same manner.

Both Olyslagers and Mahuchikh failed three times to clear 2.01 m, but the Ukrainian placed first due to fewer attempts and won the Diamond League for the third year in a row.

Another Ukrainian, Iryna Herashchenko, won the bronze medal with a clearance of 1.92 m on her second attempt. The Diamond League final. Women's high jump

Until now, only one person had won three successive Diamond League high jump competitions in the history of the tournament - Russia's Mariya Lasitskene, who triumphed four times in a row (2018-2021 inclusive).

Now Mahuchikh has become the second person in history to win three times in a row - and she may set a new record next year. This season, Mahuchikh competed at the Diamond League stages in Stockholm and Paris, winning both competitions. Mahuchikh also won gold at the 2024 Olympic Games a few weeks ago, while Herashchenko took home the bronze medal.
