"This meeting will be an opportunity for the President of the Republic to reaffirm France's determination to continue to provide further unwavering support to Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, together with our partners," the press office noted.

Background

  • On 9 October, Macron, accompanied by the French and Ukrainian defence ministers, visited Ukrainian military personnel from the 155th Brigade who are undergoing training in France's eastern region of Grand Est and wished them success.
  • It has also been unofficially reported that Zelenskyy is expected to visit Berlin on Friday for talks with Chancellor Olaf Scholz and President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
  • This visit was evidently planned to coincide with a meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group (also known as the Ramstein format) on 12 October, which was eventually postponed.

It remains unclear whether it will take place at the leader level, as originally planned for this week.
