Artillery of the National Guard of Ukraine received Zuzana 2 self-propelled gun

The National Guard of Ukraine (NGU) has received Zuzana 2 155mm self-propelled artillery systems. NGU commander Oleksandr Pivnenko published the photo of the equipment. He also noted that these self-propelled artillery systems are effective both in counter-battery warfare and in directly hitting enemy targets.

"Therefore, its appearance in the units of the National Guard will significantly increase our effectiveness on the battlefield," Pivnenko emphasized. In early October 2022, Militarny reported that Germany, together with Denmark and Norway, would finance the production and supply of Slovak Zuzana 2 155mm wheeled self-propelled artillery systems for Ukraine. According to media reports, the contract is worth EUR 93 million.

The first self-propelled artillery systems were delivered in the summer of 2023.

Also, in June 2022, Ukraine and Slovakia signed a contract to supply eight Zuzana 2 155mm self-propelled guns.

Ukraine received the last of them on January 16, 2023. On July 7, 2023, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukraine had signed a contract with Slovakia to supply Zuzana 2 155mm self-propelled guns. The value of the new contract was not disclosed, but it is reported that it involved the supply of 16 self-propelled guns.

It is unknown whether these self-propelled guns were handed over to the National Guard artillery or obtained through other means.

The NGU noted that artillery remains an effective weapon on the battlefield.

Thanks to aerial reconnaissance, Ukrainian units have the ability to detect enemy targets in advance and blow up their warehouses, infantry, and equipment. They can also destroy enemy self-propelled artillery systems in counter-battery combat.

Zuzana 2

Zuzana 2 is a Slovak 155mm self-propelled gun developed by Konstrukta Defence. It is based on the design of the ShKH vz.

2000 Zuzana, which, in turn, is a development of the Czechoslovakian artillery system DANA vz.

The artillery unit, which carries a 40-round ammunition magazine, is equipped with a fully automated loading mechanism that can fire up to 5 rounds per minute.

A 155mm gun with a 52 caliber barrel length provides a maximum range of up to 41 kilometers with a rocket-assisted projectile.
