Belarusian soldier who fought for Ukraine is extradited from Vietnam

Belarus has announced that Vasily Veremeichik - a former soldier in the Kastus Kalinouski Regiment, a unit made up of Belarusian military volunteers fighting on Ukraine's side - has been extradited after he was detained in Vietnam. He joined the Kalinouski Regiment at the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. He later moved to Lithuania but was refused a residence permit because of his prior service in the Belarusian Armed Forces.

According to Belarusian media, Veremeichik was detained in Vietnam on 13 November and transferred to Belarus the following day. Veremeichik faces up to 15 years in prison in Belarus for his service in Kalinouski's regiment, which the Belarusian authorities have declared a terrorist organisation.
