Ukraine's ground forces commander on how Russia is trying to regain control in Kursk Oblast

Russian troops in Kursk Oblast have shifted from defence manoeuvres to offensive actions and are trying to break through the Ukrainian defences in order to regain control over territory captured by Ukrainian forces. Source: Lieutenant General Oleksandr Pavliuk, Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in an interview with Ukrinform Quote from Pavliuk: "In the beginning of the [Ukrainian] defence forces' offensive operation in Kursk Oblast, the enemy was trying to stop our troops' advance at any cost.

They set up ambushes and deployed air power. The Russians also relentlessly bombed their own towns and villages. After our troops reached the designated lines and switched to defence, the enemy forces moved from defence manoeuvres to offensive actions.

The enemy wanted to regain control of the territory along the state border.

At the moment, enemy forces are deploying small groups, up to a unit in size, and using artillery to push our units out of their positions. The enemy also started to try to break through the defence, on orders from Russian political leadership and in an effort to regain control over Kursk Oblast. [To this end], they are deploying armoured vehicle-supported units up to a company (battalion) in size. This tactic has so far resulted in significant personnel and equipment losses [for the Russians]."

Details: Pavliuk also said that some local successes for the Russian army were accompanied by significant losses in manpower, which is forcing Russia to keep transferring additional units from other fronts to Kursk Oblast.
