Back in November 2024, the commander of the National Guard, Brigadier General Oleksandr Pivnenko, published a photo of a Zuzana 2 self-propelled artillery system in service with the National Guard of Ukraine. However, it was not specified which unit received these howitzers.

The commander of the National Guard of Ukraine noted that those self-propelled artillery systems were effective both in counter-battery combat and in directly hitting enemy targets. "Therefore, its appearance in the National Guard units will significantly increase our effectiveness on the battlefield," Pivnenko emphasized.

Zuzana 2 self-propelled howitzer for Ukraine

At the beginning of October 2022, Militarnyi reported that Germany, along with Denmark and Norway, would finance the production and delivery of the Slovak 155 mm Zuzana 2 self-propelled howitzers for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to the German TV channel ARD, the value of the contract amounted to EUR93 million.

The first self-propelled howitzers began to be delivered in the summer of 2023.

Also in June 2022, Ukraine and Slovakia signed a contract for the supply of eight 155mm Zuzana 2 self-propelled howitzers. Ukraine received the last of them on January 16, 2023.

On July 7, 2023, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi announced that Ukraine had signed a contract with Slovakia for the supply of 155 mm Zuzana 2 self-propelled howitzers. The value of the new contract was not disclosed, but it is known that it had involved the supply of 16 self-propelled howitzers.

Zuzana 2 self-propelled howitzer

Zuzana 2 is a 155 mm wheel-mounted, self-propelled howitzer manufactured by the Slovak company ZTS Special. It is an upgraded version of the Zuzana 155 mm, which was preceded by the Czechoslovak 152 mm SHkH vz.77 DANA self-propelled gun.

The artillery unit, which carries a 40-round ammunition magazine, is equipped with a fully automated loading mechanism that can fire up to 5 rounds per minute.

A 155 mm gun with a 52 caliber barrel length provides a maximum range of up to 41 kilometers with a rocket-assisted projectile.
