Earlier, members and employees of the union reported on social media that the building of the 1879 Lieberman Mansion, which housed the Union, had been damaged. "Today's New Year's greetings from the Muscovites are particularly cruel. The House of Writers of Ukraine was left without a single window after the morning enemy attack on the capital.

And there are 83 of them. Doors, walls and ceilings were destroyed. A historic building, an architectural monument, our writers' home has become a ruin," wrote writer and member of the union Tetiana Folvarochna.

"The enemy hit the Union. ...

This is the whole world. Childhood, youth, adulthood. Mushketyk, Honchar, Zahrebelnyi, Dimarov, Yavorivskyi, Drach and Lubkivskyi are still alive there.

When I was a child, I was looking forward to the children's party at the Union most of all. They would show cartoons in the assembly hall and give sweets. That was magic," wrote the poet and member of the NUWP Vasyl Zyma.

About the Writer's House

Since 1953, the National Writers' Union of Ukraine has been located in an ancient monument of history, art and architecture - the Lieberman Mansion. It was built in 1879 by architect Volodymyr Nikolaiev, and the first owner was Adjutant General Fedir Trepov. In the mid-1890s, the estate became the property of a Kyiv merchant and sugar manufacturer, Symkha Lieberman, so in 1896, Nikolaiev rebuilt it for his needs.

The interiors of the Lieberman Mansion had a rich decor: stucco ceilings, cornices, carved doors, artistically designed tile floors, marble window sills, brass window and door hardware, and inlaid parquet.

The house's decoration combined features of various styles - Renaissance, Baroque, Classicism, and Moorish art. After the Lieberman family lost the house in 1917-1919, various institutions were located here: the Okhmatdyt children's consultation, a kindergarten and nursery, the Council of People's Commissars of the Ukrainian SSR, etc. After 1953, when the Writers' Union of Ukraine took over the building, such classics as Ivan Drach, Lina Kostenko, and Ivan Svitlychnyi began their careers here.

In addition, the People's Movement of Ukraine was born in this building in 1989.
