The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine reported on this. The liquidation took place on the Vasylivka-Tokmak highway on December 29, 2024, by the DIU's Kraken Regiment using an FPV drone. The Chief of Staff of the Storm-Ossetia Battalion, part of the 429th Motor Rifle Regiment of the Russian Armed Forces, was neutralized.
The elimination was the result of an effective operation in which Sergei "Kama" Melnikov, known as the chief of staff of the Storm Ossetia Battalion, was killed. His driver was killed along with him.
Intelligence officers of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine obtained important information, including details of the route and schedule of movement of the chief of staff of the Russian battalion in the temporarily occupied territories of the Zaporizhzhia region. Thanks to this data, organizing an FPV ambush for the invaders' leader was possible. At first, the drone operators successfully scared the driver of the UAZ Patriot car in which Melnikov was traveling.
The frightened Russian driver abruptly changed the direction of movement, causing the car to fly into a ditch. After that, the military intelligence officers delivered a precise kamikaze drone strike on the frontal part of the car.
