In India, near the city of Karega, a Mirage-2000 aircraft crashed during a scheduled training flight. Indian newspaper Hindu reported on this. The media notes that the plane took off from the Gwalior air base and crashed near the city of Karega in the Shivpuri district.

Police spokesperson Aman Singh Rathore reported that the two pilots who were flying the plane successfully ejected and suffered minor injuries. According to preliminary data from the Indian Air Force, the crash was caused by a system failure during a scheduled flight.

The Air Force will also conduct an investigation to determine the exact causes of the accident.

The Mirage 2000 is a fourth-generation French-made multi-role fighter jet developed by Dassault in the 1970s. This is not the first time these aircraft have crashed in India. In 2023, a Su-30 and a Mirage 2000 crashed simultaneously in India.

The exact number of Mirage-2000 fighters currently in service in India is difficult to assess. Information about military equipment is often confidential and may change over time.

However, it is reported that India purchased about 50 Mirage 2000 aircraft in the 1980s.

Given the accidents and wear and tear, their number is now much smaller.

At the same time, last year, the Greek Ministry of Defense planned to sell 18 Mirage 2000 EGM/BGM aircraft to India, which were retired from the country's air force in 2022.
