Netherlands predicts Zelenskyy will be invited to NATO summit in The Hague

The Netherlands expect Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to attend the NATO summit in The Hague on 24-26 April. The country is also demanding that NATO Allies strengthen their support for Ukraine and simultaneously increase international pressure on Russia to bring about peace. Details: Veldkamp reported that Zelenskyy will be invited to attend the NATO summit in The Hague, but it is too early to discuss the possible outcome of this event, as negotiations with Russia to establish at least a temporary truce are still ongoing.

"It's too early to say, to come back to your question, what exactly will happen in The Hague. But I expect President Zelenskyy to be there too," Veldkamp said, answering a question from a European Pravda journalist. The minister noted that it is difficult to make any predictions about the NATO summit to be held in June, as "these Russian-American talks are going on right now".

"I can imagine that at some point, we will all lose patience and the Americans will lose patience with Russia dragging its feet in these negotiations," the Dutch foreign minister said.

"We've seen it on the talks regarding a ceasefire in the Black Sea. They connect all kinds of extra elements to it, just as a delaying tactic. You see that also around the table yesterday, we were very much aware of that," he added.

"And we believe that we need more pressure on Russia now, and we need to support Ukraine to the maximum extent." Background: Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha reported that as of 4 April, Kyiv had not yet received an invitation for Zelenskyy to attend the NATO summit in The Hague. Sybiha also elaborated on how Ukraine will negotiate a minerals agreement with the US.
