Zelenskyy announces weekly meetings of coalition of willing

Military representatives of the coalition of the willing, which is ready to send its troops to Ukraine, will meet regularly over the next few weeks to discuss the details of the peacekeeping mission. Source: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a meeting with journalists on 4 April, as reported by European Pravda Details: Zelenskyy stated that military representatives from the United Kingdom and France were in Kyiv on Friday.

The Ukrainian side was represented by Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi, Chief of the General Staff Andrii Hnatov, Deputy Head of the President's Office Pavlo Palisa, and Deputy Defence Minister Yevhen Moisiuk.

"And it is very important that we will now work in a constant format with appropriate results," Zelenskyy said. Later, the president noted that he expects an understanding of the infrastructure of the coalition of the willing mission "in about a month". "We are discussing presence on the ground, in the air, and at sea, as well as air defence.

And some other delicate matters. We will meet weekly, and I think we will meet every week at the level of our [top] military personnel. Where, in which locations - this is discussed separately," added Zelenskyy.

He emphasised that partners "already have a lot of understanding of what Ukraine needs, where there are sensitive geographical issues, and where we would like to have support".

Background:

  • The coalition of the willing, led by France and the UK, has been working for several weeks on a plan to send thousands of troops to Ukraine to help guarantee a future ceasefire.
  • On 27 March in Paris, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that a Franco-British mission would head to Ukraine to work on strengthening the Ukrainian army.

    He also added that work on the potential deployment of "deterrent forces" to Ukraine was ongoing.
