US confirms negotiations on bilateral “security guarantees” with Ukraine

The US State Department has confirmed on Monday that Kyiv and Washington will begin negotiations on the long-term security commitments declared at the NATO summit in Vilnius. Miller said that the talks will be a continuation of the statement of G7 on the sidelines of the last NATO summit in Vilnius, where the countries "stated that they will participate in negotiations with the government of Ukraine on multi-term commitments to Ukraine's security".

"This week, negotiations will begin on how we can decide on the details of these security commitments in the future," he added.

The speaker of the US foreign ministry stressed that the United States considers long-term security obligations separately from the military assistance Washington provided and will continue to provide to Kyiv. Earlier, Andrii Yermak, Head of the Presidential Office of Ukraine, said that Ukraine would start negotiations with the United States regarding the bilateral agreement on providing "security guarantees" this week. As reported, G7 countries agreed on a framework document on security guarantees for Ukraine at the NATO summit in Vilnius.

The leaders agreed on non-specific security guarantees parameters, and their framework and specific bilateral agreements will be signed later.
