This was reported on the website of the Office of the President of Ukraine. Additional air defense systems are needed to repel Russian air attacks. On October 5, President Volodymyr Zelensky met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on the sidelines of the Third European Political Community Summit in Spain.

During the meeting, the politicians discussed measures for bilateral political dialogue in the coming period. Zelensky thanked Scholz for his powerful military assistance to Ukraine.

"I am grateful for Germany's support in protecting our freedom and people.

This is also the defense of Europe and our common values," the President noted. The President informed the Chancellor on the situation on the battlefield and the top-priority needs for the enhancement of Ukrainian defense capabilities. Scholz emphasized that Germany is working to provide Ukraine with additional Patriot air defense systems for the winter months.

Germany transferred the MIM-104 Patriot SAM system and anti-aircraft missiles to Ukraine as part of its military aid in April this year. The transfer of air defense systems took place immediately after the completion of the process of training Ukrainian operators in Germany. The training course on mastering the Patriot air defense system for approximately 70 servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was conducted at an accelerated pace.

In August, the German government handed Ukraine two more launchers and missiles for the Patriot air defense system to strengthen its air defense capabilities. As previously reported, Ukraine received Patriot air defense systems and their components from the United States, Germany and the Netherlands.

These systems were transferred to Ukraine to defend against Russian air attacks.
