Russians and Belarusians admitted to the Karate World Cup 4 days before start

The World Karate Federation (WKF) has allowed 20 representatives of Russia and Belarus to participate in the World Karate Championship as neutral athletes. Russians and Belarusians were included in the list of participants only four days before the start of the tournament.

Background: 

  • The World Karate Federation suspended karate players from Russia and Belarus in response to a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. 
  • In March, the International Olympic Committee recommended allowing Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete with a neutral status.
