Russian army strikes Kherson railway station, killing police officer – video

The Russian army has struck Kherson railway station, killing a police officer. Two of his colleagues and two civilians have been injured. An evacuation train. All services are at the scene. The number of casualties is currently being established.

There were a lot of civilians there. The relevant services will be providing updates."

Details: Ukrzaliznytsia said the strike damaged the station itself and rolling stock. Several workers are known to have been injured.

The passengers were in a shelter. Quote: "Our plan is as follows: we are waiting for the situation around the station to stabilise, we are transferring people to buses from the station square to Mykolaiv (thanks to the Kherson Military Administration for their immediate assistance), and there, we are now preparing reserve railway carriages so that we can take over 100 passengers to safety. The situation is under control and the railway workers are ready to keep the service running."

Update: Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko reported that at the time of the large-scale attack on the city, about 140 civilians were at the railway station waiting for the evacuation train to depart. The police began evacuating people, and during the operation, a police lieutenant from Kirovohrad Oblast (in Ukraine's centre) was killed. Two more policemen are in hospital with shrapnel wounds.

Two civilians who received shrapnel wounds are being provided with medical assistance.

  • On the evening of 26 December, Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of the Kherson Oblast Military Administration, said the Russians had been attacking the city for over two hours using various weapons.
