The occupation administration of Sevastopol and local residents reported the work of air defense, which tried to protect the facility.

According to eyewitnesses, after the explosion, fire trucks and ambulances headed toward the military airfield. Subsequently, Mykola Oleshchuk, Commander of the Air Force of Armed Forces of Ukraine, confirmed explosions at the military airfield in Belbek in his Telegram. The Air Force Commander also released a video showing two missiles hitting a facility on the territory of the military airfield where the 38th Fighter Aviation Regiment of the 27th Mixed Aviation Division of Russian Aerospace Forces is stationed. The footage captures the moment of a missile hitting and the simultaneous activation of Russian air defense that tries to defend the airfield but fails and another explosion occurs.

The aviation regiment, based at the military airfield in Belbek, is equipped with Su-27 fighter aircraft and new Su-30SM multirole fighters.
