Work on the ship was planned to be completed in 2024. Repair and modernization of the carrier should extend its service life as part of the Russian Federation Navy for another 10-15 years. It is expected that the repair will cost RUB 300-350 million.
Some systems on board the ship, such as air defense, are planned to be updated. It is known that in the course of modernization at the 35th shipyard, the cruiser should receive a new SAM "Pantsyr-M". This was announced in April 2018 by the then Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, Viktor Bursuk.
This system should replace the "Kortik" and AK-630 air defense systems.
