Fragments of another Shahed drone found near Moldovan-Ukrainian border in Moldova – photo

New fragments of a Shahed drone were found in Moldova near the site where drone fragments were also found the weekend before. Source: Newsmaker; European Pravda Details: New drone wreckage that appears to resemble Shahed drone fragments were found in the afternoon of 17 February near the village of Etulia Noua in Moldova's Vulcanesti district.

"Information was passed on to relevant officials and access to the area where drone wreckage was found has been limited," Moldova's Border Police said.

Wreckage was found approximately 5 km from the village and 2 km from the Ukrainian border.

The area is located to the north of Lake Cahul, which is largely situated in Ukraine, equidistant from Bolgrad and Reni, two Ukrainian cities.

 

Background:

  • A fragment of a downed Shahed drone was discovered in a nearby area on Monday, 12 February; the drone's warhead did not explode.
  • Dorin Recean, Prime Minister of Moldova, commented on the incident, saying that the radars currently in service in Moldova cannot detect Shahed drones, and the country needs to acquire a system capable of detecting all types of air threats in the future.
