Melitopol: Explosion rocks city as day 1 of Russian sham referendum begins
FRIDAY, 23 SEPTEMBER 2022, 07:59 An explosion rocked the city of Melitopol, in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, at 07:00 on Friday, 23 September. Source: Ivan Fedorov, Mayor of Melitopol, on Telegram
Details: Fedorov said that the loud explosion was "powerfully felt" in central Melitopol.
He noted that local residents fear leaving their homes and that this fear plays into the Russian occupiers' hands: it is in the Russians' interest that people remain quietly in their homes on the first day of the door-to-door "vote". Mayor Fedorov advised Melitopol residents to stay away from Russian military personnel and equipment as much as possible, because "things are constantly exploding wherever they find themselves". Previously: Russia is planning to hold sham referendums on the annexation of the occupied territories of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia oblasts to Russia from 23 to 27 September.
