Latvian Foreign Minister confirms NATO Secretary-General's proposal for US$100 billion fund for Ukraine

Krisjanis Karins, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Latvia, confirmed that NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg did propose creating a multi-year fund to support Ukraine in the amount of US£100 billion. Source: European Pravda, citing Karins before the meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels on 3 April  At the request to comment on the announcement regarding the US£100 billion fund, Karins stated: "I think this proposal, which comes from the Secretary-General (of NATO), is very good."

"This is the direction in which we need to think - how to pool our resources to be more effective in assisting Ukraine," he added.

Karins noted that various proposals for funding such a fund are currently being discussed. He reminded that the Latvian government has committed to allocating 0.25% of the country's GDP to support Kyiv. "There are different ways to do this, but certainly, if we all contribute 0.25% of GDP to support Ukraine, then Ukraine's financial problems will be solved," Karins believes.
