Russia claims to have captured Novomykhailivka, Ukraine's Armed Forces assure they hold on to part of the village

The Russian Ministry of Defence has announced the capture of Novomykhailivka, a village south of Mariinka in Donetsk Oblast, but Ukrainska Pravda disputes this claim, citing Ukrainian Defence Forces who say they're in control of part of the northern part of the village. Sources: summary of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation; sources of Ukrainska Pravda in the 79th Separate Tavrian Air Assault Brigade of Mykolaiv, deployed on the Novomykhailivka front; data from Ukrainian OSINT researchers DeepState Details: The Defence Forces most likely still maintain positions in the dachas north of Novomykhailivka, across the Sukhi Yaly River.

On the DeepState map, this is the sole area of the village designated as a "grey zone."

According to Ukrainska Pravda and DeepState, Russians have already taken over the remainder of the settlement. The settlement of Novomykhailivka has been completely destroyed and is unfit for human habitation. Autumn of 2023 saw the Russians start their march on Novomykhailivka; by February 2024, the settlement was already experiencing fierce fighting.

The Ukrainian military, especially the paratroopers of the 79th Brigade, successfully repelled Russian attacks throughout April 2024. Recently, Ukrainska Pravda journalists observed from a drone how challenging it was for the paratroopers of the 79th Brigade to maintain their positions in the destroyed settlement. Background: The Russian army resumes its offensive on this front following the capture of Mariinka in January 2024, concentrating its efforts in the vicinity of Mariinka.

The Russians exert pressure on the city of Krasnohorivka, to the north of Mariinka, and on the villages of Paraskoviivka and Kostiantynivka to the south, as well as on Novomykhailivka, which is almost captured.
