Media release video of attempted assassination attempt on Slovak PM

The Slovak media outlet Hospodarske Noviny has published a video showing the first moments after the assassination attempt on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico in the town of Handlova. The latter are apparently trying to provide first aid to a man lying on the ground.

"A crowd was waiting outside, and one of them started shooting. He was immediately calmed down and detained, and the guards took the prime minister away. We have the information that the shooter was aiming at the prime minister himself," a freelance employee of Hospodarske Noviny (HN) who was at the scene describes the situation.

HN editor Juraj Bury says he heard two shots from the outside, while he was inside. He says the police detained the shooter and then cleared the square in Handlova. Another video from the scene is also being shared on social media.

As reported, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was shot after a government retreat on Wednesday; he was taken to hospital. The witnesses who were at the scene report that the prime minister approached the people who were greeting him, and that's when several shots were fired. After that, the head of government fell to the ground.

The media reports that Fico was shot in the chest and stomach, and his condition is serious.
