Russians introduce remote learning in Luhansk region, handing out assignments in schoolyards – Head of Oblast Military Administration

VIKTORIA ANDRIEIEVA[1] - WEDNESDAY, 7 SEPTEMBER 2022 There are 840 school students still remaining in the occupied Sievierodonetsk hromada (amalgamated territorial community, an administrative unit designating a town, village or several villages and their adjacent territories). That is nearly 8% of the total number of students as of the beginning of the school year.

Haidai said the learning process is neither online or offline, but remote. Quote: "Children come to the schoolyard, get assignments to study the material on their own, and go back home where they have no electricity or Internet connection. How are they supposed to study in the dark?

How can they study the laws of physics, logarithms or grammar on their own? It is a mystery," Haidai said.

It is also uncertain what curriculum students in Luhansk Oblast will be following, and what certificates they will receive at the end of the school year.

Due to this remote education, communication between teachers and students is very limited, Haidai emphasises[4].

"Maybe that's for the best. That way, children will be less affected by the Russian propaganda which the teachers are full of after their professional development courses in Russia," he adds. Apart from that, the number of students who have remained is not enough to fill two schools in the city.

There is also a lack of staff in educational facilities; only 89 people have been hired. Yet the occupiers claim that five schools are to open in Sievierodonetsk. However, 8,248 boys and girls from Luhansk Oblast have been evacuated to safe regions of Ukraine and have continued their studies according to Ukrainian educational programmes.

654 teachers are working with them. In total, over 6,000 schools[5] with special shelters have started working offline in Ukraine. Read also: A Russian missile destroyed the 29th school in the Donetsk region.
