Drone Attack Leaves Belgorod Oblast Without Electricity

As a result of a massive drone attack on Russian city of Belgorod's power grid facilities, part of the region remains without electricity. Local media reported on this. According to eyewitnesses, the drones attacked the area where the substations are located near the village of Neznamovo around 2 a.m.

Massive power outages have been reported in Belgorod and Belgorod district, as well as in Stary Oskol, Chernyansky and Volokonovsky districts. This also resulted in water supply disruptions. Locals also reported a series of explosions as a result of the hit.

The footage also captures the sounds of unsuccessful attempts to shoot down the drones with small arms. Key facilities in the region are located in the area of the strike: the 750-kV substation PS-750 Metallurgicheskaya and the 500-kV substation PS-500 Stary Oskol.

These energy infrastructure facilities are powerful nodes that connect the grid and are part of the power supply scheme from the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant and the Novovoronezh Nuclear Power Plant. "It is the hub of power output from nuclear power plants and supplies electricity to the entire metallurgical complex and the entire region," says Mikhail Zhdanovsky, director of the Russian Federal Grid Company's branch, about the Metallurgical substation. The power facilities provide electricity for the Oskol Electrometallurgical Plant and enterprises of the Starooskol Mining Region of the metallurgical facility.

The acting governor of the Kursk oblast, Aleksey Smirnov, said that as a result of the strikes on the energy infrastructure in the Belgorod oblast, problems with electricity supply could also affect the neighboring Kursk oblast.

"Due to technological disruptions in power lines in neighboring regions, the Kursk region may face a shortage of electricity," Smirnov said.

The other day, Russian bombers dropped a three-ton FAB-3000 bomb and a number of other smaller caliber bombs on the Belgorod oblast.
