Compass Engineering Delivers New Thermal Imaging Devices to Detect Shahed Drones
12 August, 2024 A thermal imaging device for detecting loitering munition from the Ukrainian company Compass Engineering The Ukrainian company Compass Engineering has developed a new thermal imaging device with a screen that will help detect Shaheds. The company stated that it has already handed over the new equipment to mobile firing groups of the State Border Guard Service that are hunting for Russian loitering munitions.
"The newest solution allows us to detect Shaheds at a distance of up to 5 kilometers for an appropriate response," the company said. The solution is represented by a thermal imaging device with a screen that can be used on any mobile or stationary platform as a sight. The introduction of this development should help to increase the effectiveness of shooting down enemy targets and improve defense capabilities.
It is stated that this platform has already shown good results in displaying information, sufficient control speed, and smooth position change during turning. According to Mykola Lushchyk, Head of the Communications and Information Systems Department of the Ukrainian State Border Agency, such solutions are the next step in the development of enemy air target detection, which will allow mobile fire groups to detect and, accordingly, destroy threats at longer distances.
"The mobile fire teams note its ease of use," Mykola Lushchyk said. The camera and monitor are mounted on a rack with a large-caliber machine gun, which is installed on the vehicle.

The shooter should aim at the Shahed and see the Russian barrage munition on the monitor at night.
"Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, we have been developing solutions to equip both individual brigades of the Armed Forces and the State Border Guard Service with technology. Adapting our business profile allowed us to respond quickly to the military's requests and help them with their current needs," the company said.

In April 2024, the State Border Guard Service also tested other technologies from Compass Engineering that will be able to detect violators at the border on their own.
