The exercise will feature about 60 aircraft from 13 countries, including F-35A fighters and B-52 bombers.

The major manoeuvres will take place over the United Kingdom, the North Sea, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

Background:

  • The newly elected Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, stressed that the Allies currently see no direct risks associated with using nuclear weapons and advised them not to pay attention to Russia's nuclear threats.
  • The EU stated that Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin's fresh threats to use nuclear weapons on non-nuclear countries are yet another example of his irresponsible behaviour, and they will not influence the European Union's decision to continue to support Ukraine.
  • In September, Vladimir Putin made changes to Russia's nuclear deterrence doctrine.
