The spokesperson announced that Ukraine plans to hold a meeting of these countries in December "to coordinate and develop a unified position" to ensure Ukraine's strength "in any scenario - both at the negotiation table and on the battlefield". The creation of the group was discussed during a joint press conference held by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Friedrich Merz, the leader of Germany's opposition, who visited Kyiv on 9 December.

Merz proposed establishing a contact group comprising Germany, France, Poland and the United Kingdom to exchange ideas on ending the war in Ukraine and "develop a joint vision alongside the United States". Zelenskyy responded that Ukraine is already organizing such a group and, in addition to the mentioned countries, hopes for Denmark's participation, with the first meeting planned for December.

The president previously stated that Ukraine requires a just and strong peace that Russians cannot dismantle in a few years, as they have done before.
