On the morning of Saturday, January 14, residents of the capital heard powerful explosions, followed by air raid sirens. The Kyiv City Military Administration reported that the Russian invaders were attacking the city with missiles. Explosions sounded in a number of areas of the capital.
Yuriy Ignat, Air Force spokesman, said that Russian missiles might have flown from the north along a ballistic trajectory. The invaders supposedly fired ballistic missiles or anti-aircraft missiles of the S-300 SAM at Kyiv. "Most likely, these are missiles that were flying on a ballistic trajectory.
From the north. Ballistic (targets - ed.) are not available for us to detect and intercept," said a spokesman for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to Ignat, Ukrainian experts will study the wreckage to establish exactly what type of missiles the enemy used this time.

However, it is obvious that these were either ballistic missiles or anti-aircraft missiles of the S-300 air defense system, flying on a ballistic trajectory. Yuriy Ignat adds that missiles of the S-300 SAM exist in various modifications.
Therefore, a certain modification may allow them to be launched from the territory of Russia. The missile attack alert came late due to lack of radar data and information from other sources. Missile fire could be carried out both from the territory of Belarus adjacent to Ukraine and from the Russian Federation.

It is noteworthy that before the explosions in Kyiv, local residents near the Russian city of Klintsy in the Bryansk region reported on social networks a high probability of the sounds of air defense systems, supposedly S-300 or S-400. The local authorities of the Russian region subsequently announced the alleged reflection of a missile attack by Ukraine. It cannot be ruled out that this may be an information cover for the use of anti-aircraft missiles at ground targets in Ukraine.
In turn, the Belarus Gayun monitoring group reported that on January 14 it did not receive a single message about the launch of missiles from Belarus territory.
This may confirm the assumption that anti-aircraft missiles used in strikes at Kyiv were launched from Russia.
