EU Ambassador outlines main topics of summit with Ukraine in Kyiv
The issues to be discussed at the 3 February EU-Ukraine summit in Kyiv include the military situation, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's peace plan, and the support of Ukraine by its partners. Source: Matti Maasikas, Ambassador of the European Union to Ukraine, European Pravda reports, quoting Ukrinform Quote: "First of all, there is a signal of solidarity with Ukraine.
Among the issues to be discussed are, of course, the military situation, [and] President Zelenskyy's peace plan, which has received support in the EU. We see delays in providing assistance to Ukraine in the military, economic, financial, humanitarian and energy sectors, etc," Maasikas said. Details: As Maasikas says, Brussels will also discuss Ukraine's progress in working on EU recommendations related to granting candidate status to the EU.
"So, the range of issues is quite extensive," stated the Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine.
He also noted that the speed of any integration process depends primarily on the actions of the candidate, in particular on how quickly EU legislation is adopted and implemented, and the assessment of Ukraine's progress in implementation is ongoing. In an interview with Politico, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced an ambitious plan to become an EU member within two years.
