Zelenskyy in Brussels invites Orbán to visit Kyiv

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has held talks with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and invited him to visit Kyiv during the EU leaders' summit in Brussels. Source: Hungarian news outlet Nepszava, referring to several sources familiar with the negotiations, as reported by European Pravda As the news outlet reported, during the summit, the heads of state and government split into four groups for negotiations with Zelenskyy.

Orban met with Zelenskyy in the company of the leaders of Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, Croatia, Austria and Slovenia.  Orban and Zelenskyy shook hands, and the Hungarian prime minister posted a photo of this moment on his Facebook page. 

According to the news outlet, during the meeting, the Ukrainian President invited Orban to visit Kyiv. It is not yet known whether Orban accepted Zelenskyy's invitation.

According to the outlet's sources familiar with the agenda of the group's meeting, the main topic of the thirty-minute conversation between the eight leaders was the supply of weapons. Zelensky started by listing the weapons Ukraine needs. The Austrian Chancellor and the Hungarian Prime Minister immediately declared it impossible to fulfil the request. 

After the start of the Russian invasion, the already strained relations between Kyiv and Budapest deteriorated. In late January, Orban outlined his position on the current situation of the Russian-Ukrainian war at a meeting with journalists in Budapest, from which it follows that he does not believe in the victory of Ukraine and believes that it is gradually turning into an uncontrolled ruin.

After that, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine summoned the Hungarian ambassador for an explanation.
