EU Commissioner Asks Albanian Govt to Speed Up Reforms

The EU Enlargement Commissioner, Oliver Varhelyi, at the press conference from Tirana, requested the acceleration of reforms by the Albanian government for the country's integration into the European Union, as he gave positive signals for the process in 2023.  "We want this region to be part of the EU as soon as possible. We asked for acceleration of reforms.

We agreed that if everything goes well this year could be even more successful. Because both sides benefit from the progress made. From Albania, from this progress, we get a neighboring allied partner that not only works with us but also integrates with us.

Varhelyi also had a message for the further advancement of the fight against corruption.  The senior EU official said there is a need to see more cases of high-level corruption.  "Overall progress made very well.

We encouraged them to do more.
The reform in justice is giving results as we can see and we hope that we will see results in the fight against corruption.

We see some issues that have appeared at the high level, we encourage Albania to continue in this direction," said Varhelyi.
