The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Australia of the C-130J-30 Super Hercules aircraft. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency released a corresponding statement on November 2. The aircraft and associated equipment are expected to cost £6.35 billion.
The document reads that the Australian government had requested the purchase of 24 C-130J-30 aircraft and spare parts, related equipment, logistics, and software. All of this should keep military transport aircraft in working order after the sale.

The proposed sale will improve Australia's capability to meet current and future threats. "Australian Air Force (RAAF) with replacements for its aging cargo fleet, guaranteeing a reliable airlift capability, and allowing the RAAF to improve its overall operational capability," the U.S.
Defense Security Cooperation Agency said in its statement. The proposed supply of this equipment and its support, according to US representatives, will not change the region's essential military balance. The principal contractor will be Lockheed Martin Corporation.

The C-130J-30 is an extended version of the C-130J aircraft. Lockheed Martin's C-130J Super Hercules is a four-engine turboprop military transport aircraft. It is an upgrade of the C-130 Hercules with new engines, a crew cabin and other systems.
The aircraft is the newest version of the C-130 Hercules and the only modification in production. More than 400 C-130J aircraft are operated by about 17 countries.
