The decision on military assistance for Ukraine was approved by 175 MPs, 49 voted against, one abstained. A general decision in support of this issue was also adopted at a joint meeting of the parliamentary committees on foreign policy and defense. Now the country's government has to specify within a month what military aid Bulgaria may provide to Ukraine.

This was Bulgaria's second attempt to approve the supply of military aid to Kyiv.

The pro-Russian parties "BSP for Bulgaria" and "Revival" oppose the draft law. Also, the country's president Rumen Radev, who is currently in charge of the executive branch, has repeatedly spoken out against such a decision and even called its initiators "warmongers" who want to drag Bulgaria into the conflict. The "GERB-SDS" and "Democratic Bulgaria" parties actively support the decision to help Ukraine.

The representative of the "GERB" party, Daniel Mitov, noted that the countries that support Ukraine today are included in the list of civilized states.

"I want Bulgaria to be part of this list," Daniel Mitov stressed.

It is too early to say what kind of assistance Ukraine could get from Bulgaria. Previously, Dimitar Stoyanov, Acting Minister of Defense, noted that as a result of the adoption of the draft law, Bulgaria may lose the S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems, which are the basis of the country's air defense system. As previously reported, even though Bulgaria does not supply weapons to Ukraine, its military factories still receive profits from the sales of weapons used by the Ukrainian army.
