Leopard 2A6

Leopard 2A6 is a high-tech sample of armored weapons designed and manufactured by the German Krauss-Maffei. The Leopard 2A6 tank is the penultimate version, designed only in 2007.

On January 25, the German government allowed the transfer of 14 Leopard 2A6 tanks to Ukraine and agreed to the re-export of these tanks from other countries. Subsequently, the German government increased the number of tanks planned for transfer to 18 units. These tanks, together with those that will be transferred to Ukraine by Portugal and Sweden, will establish a battalion of 31 Leopard 2A6 tanks.

"This decision corresponds to our well-known line of supporting Ukraine to the best of our ability. We act in a closely coordinated international manner," said Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Olaf Scholz. In addition, Germany will provide logistics and ammunition for the tanks.

In general, the transfer of tanks took place together with the completion of the training of Ukrainian crews and repair units.

Training of the Ukrainian military took place six days a week. The training of Leopard 2 tank crews lasted about six weeks. Soldiers first worked with simulators, and then - in field conditions.

It is known that future tank crews were created in Ukraine mainly from experienced tank drivers who already have combat experience.
