Prince Harry stayed at Frogmore Cottage one final time while visiting London last week to attend preliminary hearings in his legal battle against the publisher of a British tabloid newspaper. An insider has debunked claims Harry stayed away from all royal estates during his visit to the British capital and confirmed he chose to stay at his old home as a guest of his cousin Princess Eugenie. "The Duke of Sussex stayed at the Windsor property before making his surprise appearance at the Royal Courts of Justice last week," a source told Britain's Telegraph on Sunday.

Harry and his wife Meghan Markle were gifted Frogmore Cottage as a wedding gift from the late Queen Elizabeth II in 2018 and spent about GBP2.4 million (AUD £4.4 million) on renovations. However, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex only lived in the renovated home for a few months before leaving the royal family and relocating to the United States in 2020. Like most royal residences, the home is ultimately owned by King Charles through the Crown Estate.

The new King formally evicted his younger son and daughter-in-law from the home in January following the release of Harry's bombshell memoir Spare. In Spare, Harry shared embarrassing and personal details about his father and brother Prince William and accused Queen Camilla of "sacrificing" him to the press to rehabilitate her own image. Following the Sussexes' eviction, Frogmore is currently occupied by Harry's cousin Eugenie and her husband and son.

Harry was in London to testify in his legal fight with the publisher of British newspaper the Daily Mail over claims they hired private investigators to follow the royal and illegally hacked into his phone. Despite staying in a royal residence while back in London, the Duke of Sussex continued to criticise the royal family from the witness box during his testimony. Over three days of testimony, Harry blamed the royal family for never allowing him to speak out about mistreatment by the tabloid press.

"As a member of the institution the policy was to 'never complain, never explain.' There was no alternative; I was conditioned to accept it," he said.

The Telegraph insider also revealed that Harry used the time back at Frogmore to pack up his remaining belongings and ship them to his California mansion in Montecito.

"(Harry) used the visit to sort out the couple's belongings and work out what needs to be shipped to the US ahead of vacating the property," they said.
