Migrants fake videos case: Bihar Youtuber Manish Kashyap booked …

"Manish Kashyap, who circulated fake videos of Bihari migrant labourers being attacked in Tamil Nadu has been detained under the NSA Act," Madurai Superintendent of Police Shiva Prasad told PTI. On Wednesday, Kashyap[1] appeared before a Madurai district court, which had ordered that he be remanded to judicial custody for 15 days following which he was sent to the Madurai central prison. The court has extended his judicial custody till April 19, news agency ANI reported.

The Madurai Crime Branch police registered a case against Kashyap and a special police team arrested him from Bihar. Kashyap, who was arrested by Bihar Police's economic offences unit (EOU) after he surrendered at Jagdishpur police station on March 18 in relation to the case, was brought from Bihar to Tamil Nadu on transit remand by a special team of the Tamil Nadu police. Last month, videos of migrant workers allegedly being attacked in Tamil Nadu were shared widely on social media.

The videos were debunked as fake by fact checkers and the police department. Soon after, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin issued statements and visited a couple of factories asking migrant workers not to believe such rumours and assuring them that the state will provide all required support. The state police registered cases and arrested those found circulating the fake videos on social media.

Awareness sessions were held in several districts by the state police where the workers were briefed about the fake videos and provided helpline numbers to address grievances if any.
