Why Gujaratis are Choosing Migration to the United States from India

The Indian state of Gujarat reports that families are risking their lives to enter the United States illegally, resulting in a string of recent tragedies. Migrants have attempted to enter the country via treacherous journeys through dense forests, deserts, and perilous waterways, all in pursuit of better living conditions and what they call the "American dream." Unfortunately, this rush to escape has led to the deaths of several families from Gujarat, who have been victims of illegal immigration mafias and human smuggling operations. Police are investigating the incidents and have found that traffickers receive help from Punjabi smugglers to facilitate their entry illegally into the United States.

The recent tragedy in the St. Lawrence River in Akwesasne, a Mohawk reservation located on the border between Canada and the United States, saw the discovery of four bodies belonging to people who left a village in the Mehsana district of Gujarat. The family, consisting of Praveen Chaudhary, his wife Diksha, and their sons, tried to enter the United States via Canada aboard a boat through the St.

Lawrence River. Investigators suspect that a young couple and their son, from Mansa in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, were also on the boat with the Chaudharys. Meanwhile, more and more Indians, especially from Gujarat, are trying to enter the United States illegally.

Police report that smugglers charge between EUR64,000 and EUR69,000 per person for this service. Such smugglers usually use routes to enter the United States from Canada or through the Turkey-Mexico route. US authorities estimate that 587,000 undocumented Indians currently live in the country.

However, it is worth noting that as promising as the "American dream" may sound, illegal immigration is a serious criminal offense that can land those involved in prison or deported from the United States.
