For dealing with the struggles of his neglected childhood, Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex went out of the royals' strategy and opted for various other reasons to keep himself grounded. Although many happened to be matters of trenchant controversies, some actually saved his life, or so says the Duke himself. Before welcoming his lady love, Meghan Markle, to get his life a bit more sorted, Prince Harry was holding onto a golden coping mechanism as he revealed in an interview.

As he said in the 60 minutes' interview last year ahead of Spare's release, Prince Harry shed light on various unknown facts about the royal family. Most of his claims, like the ones about his stepmother, Queen Camilla, sent shockwaves around the internet.

While others reflected on how hard the Prince was trying to keep his life together from falling apart.

Prince Harry felt normal after having joined the Royal Army

One of the key milestones in the Duke's life has been his selfless service to the United Kingdom. However, little did we know it actually helped the Prince in areas unknown. "My military career saved me in many regards," affirmed the Duke to Anderson Cooper in the interview. And one of the primary reasons that his career fetched him was his long desire to feel normal, away from the royal rota and the media-feeding frenzy, at least for once.

It "got me out of the spotlight from the UK press," stated the Duke.

His ten dedicated years in the British army helped him focus on a purpose larger than himself. "To be wearing the same uniform as everybody else, to feel normal for the first time," was one of the best experiences for him after having joined the royal military.

Article continues below this ad For the unversed, King Charles' youngest deployed himself as an Officer Cadet for the British army in the year 2005. He served his nation for a whole decade, which included two successful tours of Afghanistan, and his rise in the ranks according to his service.

He rose to the designation of lieutenant in 2008, and to Captain in the year 2011.

Adding to it, he also qualified as an Apache Aircraft Commander, a few years prior to his resignation. He parted ways with his career in the year 2015.
