Benapole port: Export-import to remain suspended till April 24

The suspension will start in the afternoon and will continue till 24 April due to Shab-e-Qadr, Eid-ul-Fitr, and weekly holidays, reports our local correspondent quoting Tanvir Ahmed, deputy commissioner of Custom House, Benapole.

However, passenger movement through the port will continue, he added. Around 10 to 12 thousand people go to India using the port on the day before and after Eid every year, said Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge of immigration police of the port check post. Many immigration officials' holidays have been cancelled to tackle the extra pressure of passengers, the OC said.

Meanwhile, police surveillance has been boosted to ensure security at the port during the holidays, said Kamal Hosen Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge of Benapole Port Police Station.
