A video featuring the movement of the system in one of the areas of the eastern front was published on social media. TOS-1A was seized from the Russian forces and as of now, the system is working against its former owners. The flamethrower system helps the Ukrainian military hit the positions of the Russian invaders.
Units of the Russian Armed Forces with the TOS-1A flamethrower system have been participating in the Russian large-scale invasion of Ukraine since February 24, 2022. These systems are used for firing 220-mm unguided missiles.

According to the General Staff, as of February 15, 2023, the Armed Forces of Ukraine had already neutralized nine heavy flamethrower systems, such as TOS-1 Buratino and TOS-1A Solntsepyok. Also, in March, a video capturing one such Russian system being destroyed by a Ukrainian kamikaze drone was published online.
The video shows a direct hit by a kamikaze drone on ammunition during the Russian flamethrower system operation against the Ukrainian positions. It is worth noting that the Ukrainian military also managed to seize some of these systems in various states of technical condition.
These flamethrower systems were in particular seized in Donbas, Kharkiv region, and Chernihiv region.

The Soviet TOS-1 Buratino and the Russian TOS-1A Solntsepyok are 220 mm heavy flamethrower systems. They are mounted on the T-72 tank chassis. The system uses unguided rockets, which have a length of 3700 mm and a weight of 217 kg.

It is stated that the effective range of the TOS-1A is approximately 6,000 meters.
