BVI: Immigration officer charged in connection with migrant …
An immigration officer has been charged in connection with a recent migrant smuggling incident near the British Virgin Islands. The Department of Immigration said Officer Naima Grante was arrested and charged with three counts of breach of trust. The investigation into Grante's alleged crimes took place after police detained three Dominican Republic men that were attempting to enter the territory illegally.
In a statement, the Department said it "is committed to upholding the law and any identified wrongdoings by officers will be addressed.
We also wish to acknowledge the technical support and assistance that was extended by His Majesty's Customs and the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force regarding this matter."
"We remain committed to enhancing internal monitoring processes through utilising advanced technological software, employing relevant investigative strategies, and maintaining strong relationships with our regional partners."
