The first video of the launch of Russian JDAM bomb analogs was released

The first video capturing the drop of the Russian FAB-500 ?62 precision-guided bomb with a gliding and correction module was released. Russian propagandist Ilya Tumanov published footage of the Su-34 bomber dropping two half-ton bombs. The video captured the principle of operation of the wing kit.

After a certain free fall point, bombs open the wings of the kit, allowing it to increase the distance and accuracy of target hits. The video quality and duration do not determine whether this type of wing kit has a control unit with guidance systems (in particular, using satellite navigation).

It is also unclear whether this UMPK bomb uses a pulse jet that is potentially capable of extending the range up to 100 km. Previously, only footage of the hit of such ammunition and video with the remains of the UMPK were released online.

The first photo of the FAB-500 with MPK (gliding and correction module - rus. ed.) module of the Russian Aerospace Forces was published earlier this year. In early July 2023, another photo was released that captured the Russian JDAM analog.

FAB-500 with a gliding and correction module (MPK) of the Russian Aerospace Forces

The development of the gliding and correction module in Russia was previously conducted by the GNPP Bazalt specialists. At the ???S-2009 air show, the Russians presented an MPK module for FAB-500?62 bombs and information about the module.

The Russian manufacturer then offered four MPK options - purely mechanical, with a mounted control unit with an inertial guidance system, equipped with GPS/GLONASS unit, and with a pulse jet engine installed.

According to the declaration of the GNPP Bazalt, the MPK is able to deliver an aerial bomb to a certain area at a distance between 6 and 100 km with an accuracy of 10 m (variants with a satellite navigation unit).

In this case, the bomb release occurs at ultra-low altitudes (50-100 m).
